  1. controversy did a lot of things in McLuhan‚Äôs case. I 
  2. think, for one thing, it exploded his work forever. 
  3. Again, it‚Äôs this Humpty Dumpty analysis that you 
  4. can‚Äôt put it all back together again. Sure it‚Äôs 
  5. difficult to read his work. You can read his work in 
  6. many ways, you can read it as fragments. You can 
  7. also try to read him whole, which is the enterprise 
  8. I‚Äôve been engaged in and that‚Äôs a marvelous‚ÄîI 
  9. mean it‚Äôs like taking a brain bath. But in all of that, 
  10. you can‚Äôt make the mistake of forgetting that the 
  11. very controversy McLuhan‚Äôs ideas provoked, 
  12. fragmented his work forever. Now to understand 
  13. McLuhan, you also have to understand all these 
  14. fragments that show up nestling like little nuggets
